Hey all – Steve here. Fresh off a split with the Padres in San Diego with 17,000 injuries, the Mets head to Baltimore to play the last-place Orioles. Let’s get to the preview of the quick 2 game set. But first, the standings:
Let’s get to it!
The Mets are 14-18 on the road and the Orioles are 10-20 at home.
Mets (29-23) vs Orioles (21-38)
Game 1
David Peterson (1-4 5.89 ERA) vs Bruce Zimmermann (3-3, 4.96 ERA)
I feel like every time I do a preview for a series, Peterson’s ERA is increasing. He has allowed 16 runs in his last 20 innings pitched. He needs to start pitching with a sense of urgency or his spot in the rotation will up for grabs. Nobody on the Mets has faced the rookie, Zimmerman. The Orioles are a combined 1 for 6 against Peterson – so not much experience on either side. Let’s take a look at tonight’s lineups:
Game 2
Taijuan Walker (4-2 2.17 ERA) vs Matt Harvey (3-6 6.62 ERA)
The big thing to watch for with Walker is his command – he is up to 3.8 walks per 9 and he won’t be doing himself any favors by giving free passes – even to the Orioles. Harvey got off to a decent start this year, but now owns a 12.96 ERA in his past 5 starts – including 7 runs given up against the Mets. Let’s check out some match-ups:
Mets vs Harvey
Lindor – 7 AB .286 1 HR 2 RBI
Villar – 15 AB .267 1 HR 3 RBI
Nobody else with more than 3 AB.
Orioles vs Walker
Ryan Mountcastle – 7 AB .000 0 HR 0 RBI
Cedric Mullins – 5 AB .200 0 HR 0 RBI
Nobody else with more than 3 AB.
