Christmas movies are sometimes forgiven for the level of corniness in many a Christmas story. I am guilty of that as well but typically won’t stand for many lifetime-type flicks. That’s where my appreciation for these movies gets tricky – there is a fine line between fun flicks and nauseating. Next up for me is FALLING FOR CHRISTMAS. It involves another return from our friend, Lindsay Lohan. Let’s see if she can bring a little Christmas magic to Netflix.
Lohan plays Sierra Belmont, a hotel heiress who cannot function on her own. When you have people always waiting on you hand and foot, there is very little need to know how to make scrambled eggs. Her father, Beauregard Belmont (Jack Wagner) wants her to be part of the business and creates a new title for her as she would become the Vice President of Atmosphere. Sounds like a low-pressure/high-paying job, who are we to judge?
One day, she is taking pictures (you’ll find out why) while on skis (that she doesn’t know how to use). Sierra takes a bit of a tumble that will change her life forever. She would wake up in a hospital with no ID and a bought with amnesia. Things certainly aren’t looking up for the heiress when she is taken to a small hotel called the North Star Lodge. It’s owned by Jake (Chord Overstreet), a widowed dad who runs the much smaller hotel than the Belmonts are used to. To help jog her memory, she is put to work at the lodge. The problem? She doesn’t know that she doesn’t know how to do anything. Cue the hysteria as she attempts to make eggs, put fitted sheets on a bed, and everything in-between.
When it comes to silly Christmas flicks, this one is up there. It’s not a good movie, but it is what it is. It’s a Christmas flick that checks all the right boxes to be the Hallmark Channel. The cast is simply fine and does a nice job with what they were given as a story. The highest level of intrigue with this one will be to see if Lindsay Lohan is “back”. She is back in the sense that she is in a movie, but I don’t know what her endgame is. If this is what she wants to do, then it’s fully serviceable for a niche audience that really doesn’t include me. Congrats on your comeback, Lindsay.
