Scarlett Johansson is considering a role in the upcoming Jurassic World blockbuster. Discussions are underway for the actor to join Universal’s latest addition to the Jurassic World franchise, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Universal is swiftly advancing with the production of the movie, slated for release on July 2, 2025. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the new installment of Jurassic World features a script penned by David Koepp, known for his work on Jurassic Park. Edwards assumed directorial responsibilities after David Leitch’s brief involvement with the project came to an end.

The upcoming Jurassic World installment continues the legacy of the franchise, which originated three decades ago with Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster Jurassic Park, adapted from Michael Crichton’s novel in 1993. The success led to a Spielberg-directed sequel, The Lost World (1997), followed by Joe Johnston’s Jurassic Park III (2001). Universal reinvigorated the series with the highly lucrative Jurassic World (2015), grossing $1.67 billion worldwide, spawning subsequent sequels like Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Dominion (2022). Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard headlined the recent trilogy under the direction of filmmaker Colin Trevorrow.

The movie marks Johansson’s return to the realm of franchises. Previously, she portrayed Black Widow in numerous Marvel Studios productions, notably the Avengers series. However, unlike some of her superhero counterparts, she has successfully diversified her career with other projects. Johansson has garnered acclaim, receiving two Oscar nominations for her performances in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. Additionally, she is set to lend her voice to an upcoming animated film, Transformers One, and stars alongside Channing Tatum in a high-profile Apple feature scheduled for release this year.
