Hey all – Steve here. Well, a nice 2 of 3 from the Nationals makes for a nice weekend. I just wish there were fewer days off for the Mets because they just don’t need one. They need to play and play consistently to get into their (New York) Groove. I’m a slacker this time around and it is really close to game-time, so let’s get to it!

Mets (9-8) vs Red Sox (14-9)

Game 1

David Peterson (1-2 6.75 ERA) vs Garrett Richards (0-2, 6.48 ERA)

I’ll never forget Peterson going out last year in his first Major League start and beating the Red Sox at Fenway. Peterson was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 28th round of the 2014 draft. Peterson got beat up last week in Chicago where it was COLD. Tonight there will be temps in the low 60’s and upper 50’s and that is just so much better than 30 degrees. Garrett Richards has been around – he was once a highly touted Angel, but has since been up and down to the minors, had his share of injuries, and is now on his 3rd team in 3 seasons. The Mets are a combined 0-5 (Pillar and Lindor) against Richards. The Red Sox are a combined 3 for 11 against Peterson and that includes a 2 for 2 for former Met, Kevin Plawecki.

Game 2

Jacob deGrom (2-1 0.31 ERA) vs Nick Pivetta (2-0, 3.48 ERA)

Is Jacob deGrom over .500??? That is an accomplishment right there! He’s giving a temporary nod to the best catcher in Mets history, Mike Piazza with that 0.31 ERA. That number is ridiculous and I can’t believe I just typed it as an ERA. Pivetta is a former foe from the Phillies and has started the year on a good note. Last time out was his best outing as he faced the Mariners and went 6 innings, 1 hit, 2 runs, 3 walks, 4 strikeouts. On paper, this is an easy one to pick. I might even put a tiny wager on it. Producer Joe has taught me everything I know about gambling.
