Have you ever been near a tornado? Have you ever seen the devastation firsthand? Or perhaps experience the fear people feel when seeking shelter before a tornado strikes? This film captures all of that and more. Twisters is one of the most thrilling, suspenseful, and wildest films, offering an immersive experience, especially in an IMAX or Dolby Cinema theater. The movie delivers everything you’d expect from a tornado film, featuring a group of friends with exceptional chemistry, who dedicate their lives to studying and attempting to disrupt these natural disasters. Every moment in this film keeps you on edge, constantly wondering how much more intense the storms will get and the destruction they’ll leave behind.
The cast is perfect. Glen Powell (Tyler Owens), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Kate Connor), David Corenswet (our new Superman), and Anthony Ramos (Javi) excel in their roles. The bond between Anthony and Daisy’s characters as close friends is evident even after a time jump. In contrast, Glen’s character, a wild and carefree YouTube influencer, is introduced later in the film. He provides his subscribers with the most extreme tornado footage, helping Kate achieve her dream of being inside a tornado to disrupt one. Glen’s supporting cast adds to the craziness and carefree attitude, each playing a role in creating the best content for their YouTube channel. Meanwhile, the supporting cast around Anthony and Daisy’s characters is more serious and professional, working for a company dedicated to in-depth tornado research and data collection.
To fully appreciate this film, you need to see it in IMAX or Dolby Cinema. These theaters offer the most immersive audio and visual experience, with surround sound and speakers that make the storm sounds incredibly realistic, and vibrating seats during major events. The visuals in these theaters provide more detailed color grading and higher-quality images, enhancing key moments in the second and third acts.
Twisters is the most realistic audio experience I’ve ever encountered and one of the most rewatchable films I’ve seen. As a sequel to the original “Twisters” movie, it acts as a standalone film within the same universe. While I had expectations going in, the cast and director exceeded them. They raised the stakes and delivered the most realistic tornado movie experience imaginable. Trust me, they delivered.
