For the last forty-six years, the physical personification of Evil has haunted Haddonfield, IL on every Halloween (to the enjoyment of audiences young and old). Michael Myers and his relentless pursuit of death and torment has affected so many people that it’s almost ridiculous he hasn’t been put down (not for a lack of trying). In the last installment of the “H4O” trilogy Halloween Ends things are wrapped up in a nice and gory way that will leave audiences entertained, but will longtime fans of the franchise find it enjoyable? It depends.

Without going into spoilers, a character is introduced at the beginning of the movie that plays a vital part in the story. The way that the character is expressed and his overall character arch will determine the interest you will have in the movie, in my opinion, I liked the choice that was made because it was something different and unexpected while also being entertaining. When it comes to the legacy characters…Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Deputy Hawkins (Will Patton) are both back and have a little more to do than what they were doing in the previous installment (Halloween Kills) which was done well.

Michael Myers isn’t in the movie as much as he has been previously, but it ties back to the storyline introduced in the beginning. That isn’t to say that he isn’t in killing form as the scares and kills are as good as ever, and also inventive. I commend Director David Gordon Green for stepping up his game and crafting a story that isn’t as silly or ridiculous as the previous one. The original installment of Halloween can never be told or duplicated again and its impact and legacy are too important to try and top. Which makes the choices made in this creative and spoke to the theme of evil and whether it’s inherent or not. I believe that fans will enjoy the scares and the sendoff that Laurie earns after suffering for so many years, and overall, the franchise is at a perfect place to end..at least for now.
