Miami, you want something different? I’ve got just the thing—an advance screening of Don’t Let’s Go To The Dogs Tonight, a film that’s basically the anti-summer blockbuster. Instead of superheroes punching each other through buildings, you’re getting the story of 8-year-old Bobo, growing up in the middle of war-torn Zimbabwe in 1980. If you ever thought being a Miami sports fan was tough, try living through a civil war and having your entire worldview flipped upside down before you hit puberty. This one’s emotional, it’s honest, and it’s got more family drama than a Dolphins postgame press conference. Passes are limited, so get in now before they’re gone—otherwise, you’ll have more regrets than the Marlins after another trade deadline.

Miami – AMC Aventura

SYNOPSIS: Based on Alexandra Fuller’s memoir of the same name, DON’T LET’S GO TO THE DOGS TONIGHT captures the childhood of 8-year-old Bobo on her family farm in Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) at the end of the Zimbabwean War for independence in 1980. Growing up in the midst of this long running war, Bobo internalizes both sides of the struggle. Conflicted by her love for people on opposing sides, she tries to make sense of her life in a magical way. Through her eight-year-old gaze we witness Rhodesia’s final days, the family’s unbreakable bond with Africa, and the deep scars that war leaves on survivors.
